Geelong’s Bluebird Foundation has invited the city’s bargain hunters on a quest to raise money for music next week.
From 14 to 21 June, teams of up to four will purchase second-hand items from local op-shops to raise funds at auction, Bluebird co-founder Bron Lawson said.
“Last year the winning team managed to purchase an antique silver bangle for $1.50 from an op shop. It later sold for $180!
“Bargain hunting is a great way to be part of a fun event and raise some money for charity at the same time.”
The shoppers will put their thriftiness and imagination to the test searching for vintage and antique items before they go under the hammer.
The team that makes the most money will win a weekend escape for four to Queenscliff, staying at the Bon Accord.
“But of course, they won’t be the only winners, as all money raised will support Bluebird Foundation’s programs in the Geelong region,” Mr Lawson said.
Bluebird Foundation runs music, visual arts and theatre programs for children, youth and adults around Geelong.
“We are a small organisation that makes a big difference by making every dollar count,” Mr Lawson said.
Entry is $100, and each team will have a week and $80 to find Geelong’s undiscovered treasure.
The items will go on sale at Kerleys Auction Rooms from 1pm on 27 June.
