Women’s voices rise

Geelong Harmony won second place in their division at a national singing competition in Perth on Sunday.
The chorus placed second in the medium division of Sweet Adelines Australia, and sixth overall in the all-female competition.
Musical Director Alex Morris was proud of his singers’ “nuanced performance”.
“This is a brilliant result for us given that, with 33 singers on stage, we are one of the smaller choruses in the medium sized division.”
The Geelong ladies belted out songs like There Goes My Heart and Never Say Never Again.
“This year we wowed the audiences and judges with one of our most musical performances to date,” Mr Morris said.
“Geelong Harmony always gets an enthusiastic reception at our national competitions as we are renowned across Australia for our genuine and energetic performances.”
Singer Helen Booth was thrilled with the result.
“We were really happy for Alex because he put in so much work for us,” she said.
“It was wonderful to perform but it was also wonderful to watch all the other choirs and quartets. There are some very talented women around Australia.”
