Footy fans face tighter security at Thursday night’s Cats match in Geelong after this week’s Manchester tragedy, according to the trust managing Simonds Stadium.
Kardinia Park Stadium Trust said it had reviewed security arrangements in the wake of the terrorist attack on Manchester’s Ariana Grande concert, which killed 22 and injured about 60.
The review was completed ahead of Thursday’s game between Geelong and Port Adelaide, the trust said.
Trust chief Michael Brown met today met with Victorian Police, its independent security provider, and the trust’s security advisors.
The trust was advised of “no change to the stadium’s current threat assessment” but “a number of extra precautions” would be in place for tomorrow night’s game, Mr Brown said.
He asked football fans to be patient.
“There will be a heightened – and visible – police presence at the venue, at all entrances, gates and the car park,” Mr Brown said.
