Police caught a 25-year-old P-plater driving at 156km/h “on his way to court” on the Princess Freeway at Little River Thursday morning.
State Highway Patrol police detected a black Holden Cruze sedan speeding at about 11.20am.
They pulled the man over and subsequently impounded his car for 30 days at a cost of $1038.
Police expected to charge the man with dangerous speeding, exceeding the speed limit and failing to display P-plates.
When they questioned the man about his excessive speed, he replied that he was on his way to court.
The impound forms part of Operation Nexus, a state-wide road-safety operation running until Anzac Day.
Police will target speed, fatigue, distraction, seatbelt non-compliance and impaired driving in an effort to reduce road trauma and improve road user behaviour.
The operation began Thursday and will conclude at midnight 25 April.
