CRIME Stoppers has used Geelong to launch a new campaign urging reports of potential bushfire arson activity.
The campaign follows police revealing late last year that officers would keep watch over 100 known arsonists in the region this summer.
Crime Stoppers said anyone who suspected bushfire arson activity or threats should phone the organisation’s 1800 333 000 hotline or lodge a report at crimestoppers.com.au.
“The fact remains that up to 50 per cent of all bushfires are believed to be either deliberately or recklessly lit, often by people who live locally.
“Crime Stoppers wishes to encourage regional Victorians that if they see something or know something about bushfire arson, say something.”
The identity of callers would be kept confidential, Crime Stoppers said.
