Motorists rushed to the aid of a driver trapped in a truck which appeared to leak fuel after rolling on an Anglesea Road roundabout on Tuesday.
Geelong Highway Patrol Sergeant Peter Radford said “up to six people” broke through the windscreen to rescue the driver.
“A lot of people just drive past and don’t bother stopping – so good on them.”
The truck rolled on the roundabout, just off Geelong’s bypass, about 6.30pm. Police responded shortly after when they received reports of leaking fuel .
Sgt Radford said officers later confirmed the truck wasn’t leaking fuel.
He said police were investigating speed as a possible factor.
“It looks like he’s taken the roundabout a little too quick and he’s rolled over,” he said.
An ambulance took the man to Geelong hospital where he received treatment for minor head injuries.
Sgt Radford said it was the second truck rollover near the bypass in two months and urged truck drivers to exercise caution.
“We had a big log truck roll over. They just need to be aware of what they’re carrying and their speed.”
Sgt Radford urged anyone with information on the rollover to call Geelong Highway Patrol on 5247 3500.
“If anyone actually witnessed the rollover we’d appreciate a phone call,” he said.
