Locals surfed to victory in round two of the Victorian Junior Series on the Mornington Peninsula, with Jan Juc’s Bella Wilson winning the under-16s.
The lead changed multiple times in Wilson’s final against Australian under-14 champion Sage Goldsbury, of Phillip Island. But she carried her lead into the final minutes, extending it with a final 6.73 ride, finishing with 13.73 ahead of Goldsbury’s 13.
“It was actually really fun out there,” Wilson said.
“We didn’t have too many big sets wash through the line-up and I’m really happy to come in with a few good scores.”
Point Lonsdale’s Bea Conroy finished third and Jan Juc’s Angelique Kefalas finished fourth.
Swells higher than 3m pounded Gunnamatta Ocean Beach Saturday, forcing a delay before a reduction in wave heights and more favourable winds Sunday.
Barwon Heads’ Ellie Harrison dominated the under-14s girls with a score of 14.50, with Jan Juc’s Jazz Wylie and Mia Huppatz placing second and fourth.
The Huxtable brothers again shone, with Xavier winning the under-16s and Ethan the under-14s.
Jan Juc’s Indi White and Cole Fox took third and fourth in the under-16s.
Barwon Heads’ Zeph Lamperd, and Jan Juc’s Patrick Hughes and Hudson Green rounded out the top four in the under-14s.
Torquay’s Jayden Schram and Jan Juc’s Kenta Fergusson finished third and fourth in the under-18 boys.
The series will come to Jan Juc for its final round on 13 and 14 May following the Rip Curl Pro in April.
