Humanitarian and “mum-to-many” Geraldine Cox will appear in Geelong to speak about her efforts caring for hundreds of abandoned Cambodian children.
The dual Cambodian-Australian citizen discovered the plight of children living in poverty in South-East Asia during her 25-year career in the Department of Foreign Affairs.
She founded Sunrise Cambodia in 1997 after rescuing a group of war orphans who were trying to survive in the jungles of the Cambodian-Thai border.
The charity has since grown and now provides clean water, sanitation, safe homes, healthcare and education for a number of poverty-stricken Cambodian communities.
Ms Cox will speak for women’s advocacy group Zonta at the Mercure Hotel on 1 March.
She will cover her journey from the excesses of the diplomatic and corporate life to living in the Cambodian countryside caring for children.
