Vines Rd ‘model for projects’

A SHARED Western Heights College and community redevelopment could become a blueprint for other areas, according to Geelong Mayor John Mitchell.
Cr Mitchell and Education Minister Martin Dixon officially opened the $27 million project at Hamlyn Heights last Friday.
“The Vines Rd model of shared school and community facilities is the way ahead,” Cr Mitchell said.
“This redevelopment rewrites the manual on the provision of education and community facilities. It’s all about partnership.”
The redevelopment combines the college with other facilities including a community centre, a senior citizens club and recreational facilities.
State Government funding the school component while council contributed $4.2 million to the community facilities.
