A $74 million construction project has continued at Simonds Stadium amid fears industrial action could halt work.
Project builder Kane Constructions met CFMEU representatives at the site on Thursday morning.
The union this week launched a number of industrial actions against Kane Constructions sites coinciding with the Turnbull Government’s impending reintroduction of an Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC).
The Government passed the legislation through the senate on Wednesday after negotiating with crossbenchers.
Federal Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson condemned the CFMEU’s “targeting” of Kane Constructions.
“This sort of conduct cannot continue,” Ms Henderson said.
Australia’s “high level” of industrial disputes added 30 per cent to infrastructure costs, she said.
“Restoring the ABCC means the law will now be enforced, with unlawful action properly investigated, dealt with and penalised. It means taxpayers will get better value for their investment.”
