ONE OF Australian rock’s masters of the one-man show will return to Geelong for a “special evening”, according to promoters.
The promoters said Colin Hay would visit the city after sold out launch shows in Australia earlier this year to support the release of his album Gathering Mercury.
Hay has gone from strength to strength in North America, selling out venues across the continent.
This summer the former Men at Work frontman returns to Australia for his biggest solo tour here in years.
Armed with an acoustic guitar and decades of road experience, Hay is an entertainer in the true sense of the word.
The set list for his solo shows is meshed together with new tunes from Gathering Mercury, songs from his catalogue as a solo song writer and from his time with Men At Work.
“There is a subtle thread through the show that bonds the audience and performer. You’ll get more than you thought you’d get, and then at the end, you’ll want more still,” the promoters said.
Hay admitted he was probably best known as lead singer for Men At Work but he said his new album was “the best” he’d ever done.
His latest work was recognised with an ARIA Award nomination for Best Adult Contemporary Album.
“I’ve been singing, playing guitar, writing songs and trying to entertain people since I was 14,” Hay said.
“I feel, at the present time, that I may, on any given night, be getting the hang of it!”
Hay will perform at Geelong Performing Arts Centre on February 24.
