A 45-year-old woman has died in Corio after an alleged overnight hit and run.
Police said a dark sedan was travelling south along the Princes Highway about 10pm on Monday, when it struck the woman.
The driver, a 23-year-old man, allegedly drove away leaving the woman to die at the scene, police said.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives later identified the driver.
They charged him with failure to stop at the scene of a collision and failure to render assistance.
The Truganina man was bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Police said the woman was at a nearby roadside diner with a shirtless man prior to the collision.
They urged the yet-to-be-identified shirtless man to contact them.
Police urged anyone who saw the crash or the pair beforehand to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
