Injury-plagued forward Mitch Clark has left Geelong Football Club after playing nine games in two seasons.
The former star with Melbourne and Brisbane was unable to reach similar heights with the Cats despite kicking three goals on debut for Geelong in round one 2015.
Clark battled injuries and a public battle with depression during his time with the Cats. He also caused controversy with distasteful on-field remarks about an opponent’s girlfriend, who was also the sister of Geelong midfielder Mitch Duncan.
The Cats delisted 29-year-old Clark this week.
“Unfortunately, Mitch suffered a number of injuries during his two years at Geelong and as a result, wasn’t able to perform to his true capability,” said Cats football general manager Steve Hocking.
“We thank Mitch for his time at the club and wish him and his family all the best for their future.”
Geelong also this week delisted Michael Luxford after three years at the club.
Luxford was regarded as an elite junior basketballer before joined the Cats as a rookie in late 2013.
He debuted at AFL level in round 10 and played two games in 2015 before the Cats upgraded him to the senior list at the end of the year.
He failed to play a senior game in 2016 but managed 46 VFL matches in the blue and white hoops.
“Michael is an impressive sporting talent who worked diligently on his game to transition from basketball to football. He was popular amongst his teammates and we wish him all the best in his future sporting endeavours,” Hocking said.
