One of Australia’s most internationally acclaimed pianists, Piers Lane, will perform in Geelong next Saturday, as part of his latest tour.
The London-based virtuoso will play the music of great Polish composer Chopin, in what promoters described as a treat for local music lovers.
Lane has performed in the great concert halls of Europe and the world, and is the artistic director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the Sydney International Piano competitions.
His concerto repertoire exceeds ninety works and he has played with many of the world’s great ensembles including London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Lane has more than 50 CDs to his name including recordings of rare romantic piano concertos.
More recently he has released a solo album “Piers Lane goes to Town”, played concertos with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and sonatas with violinist Tasmin Little.
While Lane has made a career playing the classics, modern composers have also written music for him.
He has written and presented more than 100 programmes for BBC Radio 3, including the popular 54-part series, The Piano.
In the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Birthday Honours, he was made an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished services to the arts as pianist, mentor and organiser.
Lane will perform Chopin by Candlelight at Geelong Performing Arts Centre at 8pm, 5 November.
For piano lovers, the concert will feature works like Fantasie in F minor Op. 49, Bacarolle Op. 60, and Polonaise in F sharp minor.
