Trip of a lifetime

HOPE: Heath Tournier, Jack Copperwaite and Richmond player Dustin Martin

By Luke Voogt

The Tournier Foundation will send local boy Jack Copperwaite on a life-changing holiday with funds from its official launch.
Jack has a rare genetic condition called Crouzons Syndrome, which leads to breathing and developmental issues.
He has a particularly rare form of the syndrome and has undergone 15 major surgeries to date.
Local building contractor Heath Tournier started the foundation to help disadvantaged youth find work and accommodation.
But when he read Jack’s story he had to help, he said.
“I knew I could help because I’ve got a trade background. I just want to get involved and help families like Jack’s.”
The foundation recently completed a $120,000 renovation for Jack’s family to make their house safer.
Mr Tournier had originally intended to send Jack and his family to Disneyworld. However he said that would take him too far from surgeons who know his condition.
“He can’t fly overseas, it’s too much of a risk,” he said.
Instead they’re sending the family to the iconic Gold Coast theme parks.
Mr Tournier also found a Tasmanian family whose daughter has Crouzons Syndrome.
He hopes to send them to the Gold Coast with Jack’s family and will sponsor them to come to the launch.
“The families are really excited to meet each other,” he said.
Mr Tournier was ecstatic to have sold 150 of 200 tickets so far.
“We’re busting our arse to help others out, the more support we can get the more things we can do for other people,” he said.
“Whatever we make goes to the families.”
The foundation launch starts at 7pm this Saturday at Simonds Stadium. For information or to book tickets visit www.iwannaticket.com.au/event/the-tournier-foundation-launch-MTEzNjg
