Portrait takes prize

PRIZE: Aimee Kingsland's winning portrait of twin sister Cinnamon.

A PORTRAIT of a twin sister is among section winners of the Geelong Gallery’s annual competition for local school artists.
The gallery revealed the winners of its Who’s Who Portrait Prize, with Covenant College’s Aimee Kingsland claiming the Years 7-9 section for her painting of sister Cinnamon.
Aimee said she chose Cinnamon as her subject “because she is my beautiful twin sister, so I wanted to capture her personality on paper”.
The gallery said the student prize celebrated the connection of famed artist Jules Francois Archibald to Geelong.
The prize also aimed to “inspire young artists to celebrate local or regional identities, their personal histories and achievements through portraiture”, the gallery said.
The gallery has put the winners on display for a people’s choice award.
