Geelong Indy wins award for online commmunity news

WINNER: CNA judges have awarded the Indy for its online news service.

The Geelong Indy has won Best Digital Publishing at Australia’s premier awards for community newspapers.
The family-owned paper overcame other finalists from Melbourne and Adelaide to win the coveted award for online community news.
The Indy was also a finalist in Best Advertising Feature, for We Are Geelong, and Best Special Publication, for Geelong Coast Kids, at the annual Community Newspapers of Australia (CNA) southern division awards last Friday.
Indy managing editor Tony Galpin was rapt with the paper’s success.
“The digital publishing award is particularly important given the demand for online local news,” he said.
“We’re thrilled the judges rewarded our efforts in breaking stories and reaching locals who prefer their news online.
“It’s also good for Geelong to have an online community news outlet that’s recognised for providing a great local service.”
The Indy’s digital platforms include an active news website, a free e-paper and social media accounts that alert followers to new posts and breaking stories.
“The Indy’s now the full package of print and digital,” Mr Galpin said.
“As well as picking up the paper each Friday, readers can visit Geelongindy.com.au, subscribe for the e-paper to be emailed weekly, or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.”
