A little help from friends

When it’s no longer possible to manage at home but a person is not yet ready for aged care, Chesterfield Supported Residential Service offers a middle ground.
Manager and personal support co-ordinator Dianne Trueman said the facility, located in the beautiful former mansion in Newtown, is the perfect option for those people needing a little assistance while wishing to maintain their independence.
“Our residents are not locked into a routine,” Ms Trueman said.
“They can do their own thing, get up when they like, go to bed when they like. They can come and go as they please.”
Many Chesterfield residents have their own private phone lines and the central Newtown location means many people remain a part of the wider Geelong community that they have been part of all their lives.
When Chesterfield SRS residents Geoff Neilson and his wife Gwenda came to the conclusion that it was time they needed some help and could no longer manage at home, they were attracted to Chesterfield.
“It’s undoubtedly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” Mr Neilson said.
“Since we’ve been here we’ve been very happy. The staff are very caring people with a genuine interest in the residents.
“I’m still lucky enough to drive, and I can do that here,” he said.
“It feels as though you’re a part of a family, and yet you’ve got your independence.”
Chesterfield is available for immediate respite or permanent residency.
To inquire or organise a visit phone Dianne Trueman on 5222 4288 or email chesterfield@achg.org.au.
