High-wind danger on West Gate Bridge, speeds cut

High winds on the West Gate Bridge could be dangerous for Geelong motorists travelling to Melbourne today (Tuesday, July 12), Vicroads has warned.
“If you’re travelling across the West Gate Bridge today, expect changes to the speed limit at times,” the motoring authority said.
“During high winds the speed limit on the West Gate Bridge automatically changes to suit the conditions at that time.”
The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of severe weather, with winds around 50km/h to 60km/h.
“During these winds the speed on the West Gate Bridge will reduce to 60km/h,” Vicroads said.
“Damaging winds, with peak gusts of 90km/h to 100km/h are forecast at times and the speed on the West Gate Bridge will reduce to 40km/h.
“These speed reductions ensure the safety of all motorists travelling across the West Gate Bridge during high wind events.”
