Grovedale magician Dazzling Dan helped to conjure up a world record over the long weekend, joining colleagues in Melbourne for an 85-hour show.
Dan performed three shows at Brunswick between 9.30pm and 2.30am for the joint world record attempt, helping raise $2600 for children’s charity Variety.
“It’s a bit of an ongoing competition between magicians around the world,” Dan explained.
Not only did the magicians perform for a record length of time, one audience member stayed to watch for 72 hours, Dan marvelled.
Before confirming the record the Guinness Book of Records will examine the record attempt to ensure no magicians performed the same trick twice.
“It was a fun night but it was a challenge,” Dan admitted.
“I like to improvise bits of magic during my show but had to restrain myself in case I repeated a trick.”
Dan, or Daniel Bingham, fell in love with his art at the age of six as he practiced with magic kits from the Geelong Show.
Now 31, he is vice-president of the Australian Institute of Magic and a regular performer at local festivals.
“It’s a fun workplace,” he said, “every show I’m either at a birthday, celebration or festival.”
Dazzling Dan will travel across greater Geelong during the winter school holidays performing for children at libraries and on the Bellarine Railway steam train.
