A $10 million “redevelopment” will deliver a new library and students’ hub to The Gordon Institute of TAFE’s city campus, the Andrews Government has announced.
The works would also include an upgrade of the TAFE’s building at the corner of Latrobe Terrace and Gordon Avenue, the government said.
The State announced $5 million for the project, matching Gordon’s contribution.
The new facilities could include “workplace simulation laboratories, which are important for giving students work-ready skills,” Training and Skills Minister Steve Herbert said.
A building at the corner of Little Malop Street and La Trobe Terrace would also be home to Geelong’s new “state-of-the-art” tech school, Mr Herbert said.
“This major redevelopment for the Gordon means students of all ages will have access to cutting edge facilities and equipment, giving them the skills they need for the jobs they want.
“This is about giving Geelong residents the skills they need to find jobs and driving the local economy well into the future.”
Geelong MP Christine Couzens welcomed the announcement.
“The Gordon plays a dynamic and crucial role in supporting our local community to get the skills they need to get the job they want.”
