Taskforce Purana detectives spent Monday searching for evidence at a reservoir in Myrniong near Ballan as part of the investigation into the murder of Graham Kinniburgh in 2003.
Graham Kinniburgh was killed around 12.05am on 13 December 2003 when he was shot and killed in the driveway of his home in Belmont Avenue, Kew.
A 55-year-old Anakie man, Stephen John Aisling, was charged with one count of murder last year.
After an extensive investigation, police said they were told the firearm and other evidence to the murder may be located at Pykes Creek.
Search and Rescue members searched the reservoir off Pykes Creek Road near Greendale-Myrniong Road.
Purana Taskforce Detective Inspector Andrew Gustke said it had been the longest murder investigation ever conducted by Purana.
“We owe it to the family and friends of the victim of any crime to investigate fully and to do our very best to bring justice for them.”
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at crimestoppers.com.au.
