Day of the long boards

LONGVIEW: Over-60s champion John Ayton in action.

Victoria’s best long-boarder surfers will gather at Ocean Grove this weekend for the beginning of state titles competition.
Organisers said the first of the HIF Longboard Titles’ two rounds would feature over 50 competitors in age groups from under-18 to over 65.
Local surfers will feature heavily among the favourites, including Australian Women’s Longboard Champion Emma Webb, of Jan Juc, and former national junior champion Ben Considine, of Barwon Heads.
Reigning age-group champions John Lane, John Ayton and Greg Brown, all of Jan Juc, will also compete.
The event is part of the key selection process for a Victorian Longboard Team to compete in national titles at Coffs Harbour in August.
“This is one of the best events on our calendar,” said Surfing Victoria chief Adam Robertson.
“It has a fantastic community feel to it, while still showing why Victoria has one of the top longboarding teams in the country!”
Surfing Victoria’s official surf forecaster, Coastalwatch PLUS, has forecast perfect conditions with a small long-range swell and offshore winds all day.
Point Impossible will host the second round on 14 and 15 May.
