The members of the long-awaited Kardinia Park Trust have been announced by the state government.
Minister for Sport and Member for Lara John Eren said the Trust, led by former Premier of Victoria, Steve Bracks, would give the iconic Geelong venue a safe and exciting future.
The other Trust members are Rebecca Casson, Gillian Costa, Simon Guthrie, Prof Jane den Hollander, Michael Malouf and Elizabeth Mears.
The Trust will be responsible for oversight of the stadium and surrounding parklands while attracting more world-class events to the city.
“Kardinia Park is at the dawn of an exciting new era,” Mr Eren said.
“It has been the home of sport and heart and soul of Geelong for many decades.
“Our upgrade and establishment of the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust will give this great venue an exciting and secure future.”
Mr Bracks said he looked forward to working with the Trustees to contribute to the economic, social and liveability benefits for Geelong and the state.
Mr Bracks has been a lifelong Geelong supporter.
Ms Casson, also Committee for Geelong chief, said the success of Kardinia Park was vital to Geelong’s economic prosperity.
Simonds Stadium is undergoing an $89 million upgrade, lifting capacity to 36,000.
A new grandstand will replace the old Brownlow and Jennings Stands incorporating state-of-the-art facilities.
