Hundreds of family, friends and fans have farewelled Cats legend Paul Couch at a public memorial in Geelong’s Simonds Stadium.
Past-teammates from the ’80s and ’90s were prominent among mourners for the popular 1989 Brownlow medallist who played 259 games for Geelong.
The service began on Tuesday at 2.10pm – a traditional starting time for afternoon AFL matches – and concluded with mourners performing a lap of honour walk around the ground where Mr Couch formed his reputation as a player.
The memorial followed a private family service earlier in the day.
A skilful midfielder while playing for the Cats from 1985-1997, Mr Couch died of a heart attack while cycling with friends on 5 March. He was 51.
Mr Couch is survived by his wife Geraldine and their four children.
