Move bus stop, says accident victim’s father

The father of a boy hit by a car on Portarlington Rd while running for a bus has lashed out at authorities over the location of the bus stop.
The boy is in a critical condition in the Alfred Hospital. The father posted his comments from his son’s bedside in the ICU.
“Kids should not be crossing that highway with busy school and work traffic. The bus must change location to a non-busy road,” the father said.
“There must be a bus stop at the new shopping centre where there is less traffic where kids are safe instead of risking their lives crossing a major busy highway.
“So many accidents and fatalities have happened there. When is the government and local council going to do something about it?
“If they don’t act soon then more people will be seriously injured and killed. I want answers. I’m sick of seeing people killed and injured on this road.
“I want an answer personally from someone from the City of Greater Geelong and the Victorian government assuring me that something will be done.
“I will keep you posted if they are respectable enough to contact me, his father.”
The Air Ambulance was called to the scene after the boy and a friend were running for a bus and the 16 year-old was struck. The other boy was not injured.
The accident caused peak hour traffic chaos on the busy highway, near the Melaluka Rd intersection.
