A teenager was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries after being hit by a car in Portarlington Rd Leopold about 8am this morning.
The accident caused peak hour traffic chaos on the busy highway, near the Melaluka Rd intersection.
Police believe two teenage boys were running across the road to catch a bus when one was struck.
The 16-year-old boy was taken to The Alfred hospital. The other teenage boy was not injured in the incident.
