FINALLY FRIDAY: ’80s enough for a loving tribute

ERIN PEARSON
FOUR legends of Australian rock will “bling up” Geelong in a tribute to the ’80s on Saturday night, according to former Kids in the Kitchen frontman Scott Carne.
He will join Uncanny X-Men’s Brian Mannix, Models’ Sean Kelly and Real Life’s David Sterry when they perform their hits in Absolutely ’80s at Corio’s Gateway Hotel.
Carne said the show was like a “jukebox” of tunes.
“It’s about reminiscing; taking you back to the ’80s time vault when we had huge chart topping hits,” he laughed.
“People who are in their ’30s and ’40s can go back and relive their crazy teenager years.
“Some of us have put on a few pounds and have a few more wrinkles but we’ll step up to the plate and bling it up.”
Kids in the Kitchen became a household name with double-platinum debut album Shine and five top 10 singles including Change In Mood, Bitter Desire and Current Stand.
But the band “fell off the radar after the ’80s bubble burst”, Carne said.
Carne and Mannix put together Absolutely ’80s after watching a Countdown Spectacular in 2006.
“We realised we weren’t inventing the wheel any more with our music but enjoyed it so much we wanted to refresh it and take it out on the road.”
Carne said the Gateway audience could expect hits such as Uncanny X-Men’s 50 Years and Everybody Wants To Work, Model’s I Hear Motion and Out of Mind Out of Sight and Real Life’s Send Me an Angel and Catch Me, I’m Falling.
