A fundraiser will help raise money towards a Belmont primary school’s rebuild.
Local businesses and community groups have already donated $2500 towards Rosyln Primary School’s new front building which will provide a fresh, modern face for the school.
Principal Mary Hutchison said that while State Government was funding the rebuild project itself, the money would not cover the additional costs of furninshings, landcaping and other design elements.
“We’re very blessed to have the support of the community and local businesses . It’s great to see people giving back to their local school,“ Ms Hutchison said.
“This extra kitty will really help enable us to incorporate our school’s strong science focus. We intend to have big glass panels detailed with life-size diagrams of dinosaurs and other animals.
“It will also allow us to get higher quality furnishings, blinds and heating.“
Plans include both a vegetable patch and formalised science garden, with a rockery area to attract frogs and wildlife.
The fundraising event will kick off at 7.15pm on 28 November at the Rosyln Primary School learning centre located at the back of the school.
Vin Handley, a Roslyn Primary school parent, who helped organise the fundraiser has invited celebrities such as Australian Diamonds netball star Eloise Southby, Geelong Cats’ Tom Lonergan and comedian Pete Flaherty as guest speakers on the night.
Mr Lonergan will share his story about how he bounced back from his life-threatening injury in 2006 and Ms Southby will bring merchandise signed by Melbourne Vixens players.
Both silent and formal aucitons will be carried out throughout the night, with an auction of sport memorabilia. Tea, coffee and finger food will be provided.
