Pet cat survives being shot in eye with arrow

By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN

A PET cat, shot in the eye with an arrow, has survived after apparently removing the shaft himself.
Basil’s owner, Bell Post Hill student Jordaine Moat, posted the plight on Facebook during the frantic search for her beloved moggy.
Jordaine posted that Basil was “probably the luckiest cat alive” after taking him to a vet where he is now recuperating.
She said the drama began when Basil came home in agony with an arrow through one eye.
A shocked Jordaine said she began frantically making emergency calls but the traumatised cat ran away, only to return hours later with the arrow miraculously removed.
“My cat Basil just got shot through the eye with an arrow and has ran away in shock,” Jordaine posted.
“We think he may still be alive as it was a clean shot, but even if he isn’t we would like to find him.
“It happened in Geelong around Bell Post Hill shopping centre.”
During the search the 20 year old said the response to her Facebook pleas had been overwhelming.
“Still nothing on my gorgeous, lost and injured kitty. The response has been overwhelming. Thank you all so very much.
“Hoping some kind person picked him up and took him to the vet. Basil please be safe…”
But hours later Jordaine heard her cat meowing outside the door and rushed him to the vets.
In a Facebook update she posted: “He is in wonderful care, and probably the luckiest cat alive.
“Unbelievable. Not only does it seem he has no brain damage, but the amazing vet told me he may even get to keep his eye.
“I’m in shock honestly. He is completely responsive, meowing, curious, the cuddly baby he always is.
“Please keep Basil in your thoughts, but he quite possibly got the best out of the worst situation.
“What happened to my cat was cruel and inhumane, but in these moments the best of humanity is always so much stronger than the worst.
“Basil and I are so thankful for our family and friends.”
