Former police prosecutor Peter Murrihy is the new Greater Geelong City councillor following the Kildare ward by election at the weekend.
Mr Murrihy won the postal ballot against another 10 candidates, after the seat was vacated by Stretch Kontelj who has relocated to London for work.
He will represent Kildare Ward until the next general council election in October 2016. Cr Murrihy won with 57 per cent over Bradley Clarke with 43 per cent.
The 55 year old Cr Murrihy is married with three daughters and was a Victoria Police prosecutor in Geelong for 22 years.
He is a life member at St Mary’s Football Club, a former Geelong Amateurs senior coach and Newtown and Chilwell Football Netball Club senior coach.
Cr Murrihy is also a member of Geelong Racing Club, Lorne SLSC committee and Geelong Environment Council.
Cr Murrihy said he had no political affiliations.
