70 dancers to ‘turn on energy’ in city

Seventy dancers will perform in Geelong’s fourth annual Short Circuit Dance this Friday.
Short Circuit co-ordinator Georgina Capper said the audience could expect a “high energy, punchy night” featuring dancers from around the region and interstate.
Geelong “legend” Sheree Nash would make a special appearance as well as internationally renowned tango dancers Adrienne and Andrew Gill, Ms Capper said.
“We are so excited.”
Council-funded arts group Short Circuit runs the dance event as well as separate annual music and theatre productions on behalf of community organisation Courthouse Arts.
Ms Capper, who became Short Circuit’s co-ordinator after arriving in Geelong two years ago, said the dance production gave amateurs a chance to perform with professionals.
“I was really ignorant of the arts world in Geelong when I first came down but there are so many dance and performance groups around – it’s just buzzing down here,” she said.
“I’m really into the idea of emerging artists working alongside established practitioners to bridge that gap between training and learning, so this is a great way to do so.”
“I’d really like this to be a move toward establishing a really supportive place for dancers to come to, to experience and try new things. The more you can rub shoulders with professionals the better and I really want Short Circuit to be a platform for that.”
Short Circuit Dance is at Geelong Performing Arts Centre.
