Police blitz central Geelong

By PAUL MILLAR

THIEVES, dealers and drunk drivers beware – Geelong police are on your tail.
Police will be out in force in central Geelong today, zeroing in on known crime hot spots as part of a 24-hour blitz.
Operation City Safe will run all day, with police patrolling Geelong’s shopping and entertainment precincts in a crackdown on crime and anti-social behaviour.
Officers will set up roadblocks, random breath testing sites and roving patrols targeting criminal offences including drug trafficking and possession as well as theft and drink driving.
Police will also round up persons wanted on outstanding warrants.
Acting Senior Sergeant James Constance said the operation was aimed at increasing public safety in and around Geelong’s popular city haunts.
“Operation City Safe is one of a number of targeted operations we will be running throughout the year to keep our community safe,” he said.
“Everyone has a right to feel safe and we want would-be trouble makers to know that there is no place for criminal activity in Geelong and anyone caught doing the wrong thing could face severe penalties.”
