THE FIRST step in the return of Patrick Dangerfield to Geelong has been taken, with the star midfielder informing Adelaide Crows he wants to exercise his free agency rights.
“Whilst disappointing, we understand that Patrick’s decision has been made for personal reasons,” Crows Chief Executive Andrew Fagan said.
“We will now consider our options, however, our members and supporters should rest assured that in doing so we will make decisions and take action that is in the best interests of our football club.”
He said the club would make no further comment at this stage.
Fairfax Media is reporting that Geelong has offered the departing Adelaide superstar a six-year deal with more than 800,000 a year.
Dangerfield and Geelong must now wait to see if Adelaide matches the offer. If it does, it forces the proposed move into trade talks.
