Woolies headlines new town centre

WORK has begun on Armstrong Creek’s first shopping, dining, education and community hub, creating 200 construction jobs and another 200 on-going jobs.
The $100 million Warralily Village will also include sporting facilities, with Woolworths as the anchor tenant.
The announcement boosts the local building industry in addition to the estimated 600 contractors and tradespeople working on residential building.
A 3800sqm full range Woolworths supermarket will be supported by specialty shops, cafes, a gymnasium, office space and associated car parking.
Civil works for the $32 million state government funded co-located primary and special needs schools and $7.7 million community and wellness centre and sports pavilion also began this week.
Warralily general manager Mark Whinfield said it was the first time community infrastructure of this scale has been delivered within a residential development in Geelong.
“Warralily’s residents will be the first community in the Armstrong Creek growth area to enjoy neighbourhood facilities like this on their doorstep,” said Mr Whinfield.
“The advantage of a master planned community is that everything is planned up-front to create a cohesive and convenient environment for future residents.
“The Warralily development is a great example of today’s best practice urban design in action.”
The Village’s new town square and Central Boulevard streetscape will continue the estate’s focus on integrating bespoke landscaping, furnishings and public art to create a village feel.
Central Boulevard, off Barwon Heads Road, will become the key entry point into the Village and the adjacent sports and education areas.
Warralily Boulevard will be completed from Barwon Heads Rd through to the Surf Coast Highway to connect the entire Warralily estate to the new Village.
When the Village opens Warralily will be a community of around 5000 residents.
