New schools slated for Geelong

GEELONG is to get new schools at Armstrong Creek, Torquay, Bannockburn and North Geelong in term one 2018, state government has announced.
The local schools were among 15 state-wide slated for Victoria’s fastest growing areas.
The new schools, totalling $291 million, would be designed, financed, built and maintained for 25 years under the New Schools Public Private Partnership Project, Premier Daniel Andrews said.
Additional community facilities and programs would be incorporated into each design, transforming every school into a community hub.
The Armstrong Creek Education Precinct will include a special school and a primary school.
Bannockburn will get a prep to year 12 school including primary and secondary school components.
A special developmental school will be built in Hamlyn Heights while Torquay North gets a primary school.
Mr Andrews said Learning Communities Victoria was the preferred bidder to build and maintain the 15 brand new schools subject to final negotiations.
He said the contract was expected to be signed in late October, with construction of the first group of schools scheduled to begin by the end of this year.
“We’re getting on with building more new schools earlier, so parents in our fastest growing communities have certainty and kids get the facilities they deserve.
“We’re investing almost $4 billion to make Victoria the Education State, so that every community has a great local school and every child gets the chance to succeed.”
