Hamlyn Heights hoon ‘risking lives’

LIVES are at risk as a hoon tears up Hamlyn Heights in an unroadworthy car, police have warned.
Police today issued a call for help to identify the driver, who they labelled an “absolute disgrace”.
The hoon had been performing burnouts and other dangerous driving around Vines Rd’s shopping centre and other parts of Hamlyn Heights.
“The vehicle is unroadworthy, has the exhaust disconnected and has a rear passenger-side tail light out,” said Acting Senior Sergeant Aaron Riches.
“The most distinguishing feature of this car is the backyard, matt black paint job.
“The driver completed a 100-metre burnout before driving throughout Hamlyn Heights, endangering public health and safety – an absolute disgrace.”
“Victoria Police takes all matters relating to dangerous driving seriously. When we find the vehicle and driver we’ll seize the car, apply to have it destroyed and charge the driver with a range of offences including conduct endangering life, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment.”
Act Sen Sgt Riches said the male driver was last seen hooning at 11.15pm Thursday.
He asked anyone with information to phone him on 5225 3100.
“Confidentiality is assured.”
