Hayley competes on the world stage

GEELONG hairdresser Hayley Parker is about to reach the culmination of two years of intensive training and competition.
She is a member of the Australian Skillaroos team competing in the Worldskills competition in Sao Paulo Brazil.
Hayley, who featured in the last GC Magazine, begins competition tomorrow along with her 25 teammates in various trades and skills.
The 43rd Worldskills competition has attracted more than 1200 competitors representing 60 countries in the world’s largest trades and skills showcase.
The Skillaroos will compete in 24 of the 50 skill categories on show at the competition in the hopes of securing a gold medal for their country.
Plus Geelong region residents have the chance to vote for Hayley for the Community Choice Award, a category in the 2015 Victorian Training Awards.
Hayley is also nominated in the Apprentice of the Year award.
Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert said he created the new prize category to give the public a chance to show their support for young people in training.
Apprentices were chosen as the inaugural category to affirm the Andrews Labor Government’s support for Victoria’s hard working apprentices.
Voting for the Community Choice Award closes on August 28 at 7.45pm and is online at education.vic.gov.au/trainingawardsvote.
The apprentice with the highest number of votes will win a prize package worth nearly $5000, including a laptop computer and software, as well as $2000 cash to help further their education.
