A “FLAWED” report says the risk of fracking in the Otways is low, according to the Greens.
Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber said the State Government was using the gas industry consultant’s report to justify lifting a moratorium on fracking.
“The authors of this summary report, Jacobs Group, make their living providing services to the gas industry … why would we accept a bunch of bland assertions from them that the risk is low and the industry is safe?
“The State Government ought to be embarrassed to stand behind a report like that. It seems they are just putting out a fig leaf before lifting the moratorium and giving the go ahead to gas drilling across Victoria.”
The report said the Otways had “a range of natural gas resources that could potentially be developed “,
The Government said the moratorium would remain in place during an inquiry into onshore gas issues.
Lakes Oil holds a permit to drill for gas in an area stretching from Highton to the Surf Coast.
