The field is filling for this year’s 16th annual McKellar Centre Charity Golf Day but sponsors can still help support the fundraiser, according to organisers.
McKellar Centre’s Kerry O’Sullivan said proceeds from this year’s golf day would go toward a specialised machine to lift immobile patients into the centre’s hydrotherapy pool.
Patients with limited mobility were left high and dry after occupational health and safety laws stopped staff lifting them into the pool for fear of injury, he said.
“The machine we want can carry them all the way from the change rooms to the hydrotherapy pool and back again with safety and dignity. It’s a great thing and will fulfil a vital rehabilitation and therapy need in the community.”
The golf day, which the Independent has sponsored since the fundraiser’s inception, has raised almost $350,000 over the past 15 years.
Mr O’Sullivan said 13th Beach golf course would again host the event on April 1.
He asked businesses wanting to enter teams or sponsor holes to phone him on 5279 2282 or contact kerryo@barwon health.org.au.
