IT WAS forced out of its long-time home, saw donations dwindle and had its food distribution van stolen – but UnitingCare Geelong will turn the corner this weekend.
The charity officially opens its new centre at Grovedale on Sunday, with staff and volunteers looking forward to the fresh start.
Agency chief Des Younghusband said the new premises would allow UnitingCare to continue providing various support services to “struggling families and vulnerable individuals in the Geelong community”.
“We’re the leading emergency relief agency in the Geelong district and it’s vital we’re able to continue supporting the significant needs in our area.
“The entire community is warmly invited to join community leaders, UnitingCare volunteers and Uniting Church representatives to celebrate the opening of our new home.”
UnitingCare Geelong provides a range of community support services including emergency relief, no-interest loans, counselling and referral services.
The official ceremony will will begin 11.30am at Grovedale Uniting Church, corner of Torquay and Reserve Rds, with a dedication of volunteers and an address by Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania moderator Dan Wootton.
