New festival to ‘shock’ with arts

AN INAUGURAL Alleyway Arts Festival will bring music and exhibitions to central Geelong next week.
Organisers said the council-funded festival aimed to “expose the city’s arts culture”.
“Our aim is to show Geelong its gifted arts culture, to give this town a little shock of arts excitement through live music and artist exhibition.”
The not-for-profit, free event would feature bands including Hot Club Swing, Lash78, Sleep Decade, Sambrose Automobile and Highwater Ballroom Band.
Galleries Kubu and Oxide would provide art exhibitions, the organisers said.
Gypsy jazz band Hot Club Swing has been playing around the region for 12 years, playing a blend of original and cover songs. Featuring vocals in French and English, violin, gypsy-style guitars and double bass, the group brands itself a “unique all-string band”.
Lash78 sisters, Lauren and Sheridan Harvey perform ac-oustic songs with an emphasis on harmonies and country stylings.
Alleyway Arts Festival will be in Little Malop Street from midday to 9pm on February 19.
