Lyons’ low-carb screamer over big Tom ….

NOT TOO many people get to take screamers over the top of Cats defender Tom Lonergan and even Geelong mayor Darryn Lyons needed a leg-up.
The city’s environment portfolio holder Andy Richards was happy to do the honours as the green triumvirate plugged an updated low-carbon growth plan for Geelong.
The plan included a report showing substantial changes to the region’s industry mix with the planned closure or scale-down of heavy manufacturing sites. It pointed also to rapid technology changes and opportunities for new industries and further emissions cuts.
Drafted by ClimateWorks Australia, it showed work by the Future Proofing Geelong committee helped deliver $8.3 million of investment in improving commercial buildings – with $1.6 million in energy savings.
“There has also been a strong community engagement program around energy efficiency in the home and workplace which has involved 118 events with nearly 13,000 participants,” ClimateWorks executive director Anna Skarbek said.
