Cats enjoy best win of the year

Geelong put in its best performance of the season so far but no one will remember because Carlton’s off ground dramas dominated the game.
The coaching future of Mick Malthouse became the focus following the 77 point thrashing handed out by Geelong.
Coach Chris Scott will be most pleased by the performances of his up and comers, especially after losing Mitch Duncan to a broken foot last week.
To have Josh Caddy, Mark Blicavs and Jordan Murdoch leading the side to its best victory of the season augurs well.
A spread of goal kickers demonstrated shades of the Geelong of old and showed Scott’s patient tutoring of his young side is starting to occur on the ground.
Joel Selwood did not have his usual impact on the game, and whole disappointing for him from a personal point of view, the heavy lifting picked up by younger teammates.
While there were still scrappy passages of play, the Cats showed a willingness to take the game on and realising the benefits of such a win will play a significant role in their ongoing development.
Admittedly Carlton did not offer a great deal of opposition but you can only beat what is in front of you, and Geelong did exactly that.
And another plus – this time there was no third quarter fade out.
