HOURS spent lugging rescue boards and swimming laps paid off last weekend for 17-year-old Drysdale surf lifesaver Genevieve Wild.
Genevieve represented Victoria at Australian Interstate Surf Lifesaving Championships in New South Wales, winning a range of titles in her age group.
She will take to the waves again this Saturday for a Boroughcoutas Queenscliff Blue Water Challenge.
Genevieve, who won the Boroughcoutas swimming club’s 2011 junior scholarship program, said her aim was to “beat dad” after finishing third in her age group last year.
“Dad used to beat everyone else in my family but now we kids are faster.”
Boroughcoutas president Margie Heffernan said the annual 1.2km race was a “popular event” on the Bellarine Peninsula.
“It attracts ocean swimmers from all over Victoria,” she said.
