Education Week: Gordon focus on real skills

DECIDING whether to pursue TAFE or university tertiary study should be based on more than just a student’s ATAR score.
Anyone who prefers learning by doing, completing projects based on real-work scenarios and having study support to stay on track might find that TAFE is the best option
Renowned for hands-on learning, The Gordon is a local market leader for trade training.
The Gordon’s teachers are all industry-experienced and have strong links to local business, while the facilities replicate workplaces, often with world-class training equipment.
The Gordon offers several guaranteed pathways into Deakin University.
The Gordon’s focus on real skills and experience that delivers real outcomes is continuing to pay off in 2015, with several students travelling overseas.
Third-year apprentice cabinetmaker Kate Elstone went on an all-expenses paid trip to Turkey in March for World Wood Day, winning Mayor’s and Judge’s awards.
The UK is the next stop for Gordon apprentices Jake Barton and Luke Diaz after winning gold in a WorldSkills National Competition in Perth last year. The mechatronics students will participate in a two-week leadership development course and four weeks of UK work experience.
In other accolades, Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy student Gaetan Limsowtin has been recognised nationally, winning an Australian Association of Massage Therapists (AAMT) Student Case Study Competition 2015. Gaetan has been invited to attend and present at an AAMT Annual National Conference in Perth later in the year and will have his case study published in the industry-renowned and nationally circulated, AAMT Professional Journal.
