Murder arrest
Police have arrested a 17-year-old over the alleged shooting murder of Sam Birchall, 19, at Norlane on Saturday.
The teen appeared in court on Tuesday after police found him sleeping in a car at Corio Railway Station.

$90m plan
A $90 million urban renewal project will expand parkland in central Geelong and move the city’s controversial Moorabool St bus stops, City Hall has revealed.
The Central Geelong Taskforce long-term plan would draw $4.6 million in funding a year from City Hall, requiring additional contributions from state and federal governments.

Emergency first
An Australian-first initiative has delivered 20 “expertly trained” managers to oversee volunteers working on emergency incidents in the Geelong region.
Volunteering Victoria’s Sue Noble said the “managers of spontaneous emergency volunteers” would be invaluable in dealing with any disaster relief or recovery activities around the region.

Woman wanted
A 29-year-old woman “known to frequent Geelong” is wanted over theft and a court order breach.
Victoria Police this week released an image of Jessi Savin, pictured, who was described as Caucasian in appearance, 175cm tall with dyed blonde hair and a solid build.

Dogwalk
God owners from around Geelong will gather at Eastern Park on Sunday morning for an annual RSPCA Million Paws Walk.
Organisers said registrations opened at 9am, with the fundraising walk beginning 10am before other activities including pet care displays, competitions and refreshments.

Beer judged
Geelong brewer Warren Pawsey is pouring through thousands of entries as head judge at the world’s largest annual beer competition, organisers have announced.
They said Mr Pawsey, head brewer at Geelong’s Little Creatures brewery, would be busy overseeing judging of around 17,000 entries to the Australian International Beer Awards this week, with the work of judges due to finish today.

Orchestra plays
Geelong’s renamed community orchestra will present its first concert for 2015 at Newtown’s Keith Humble Centre on Sunday afternoon.
A promoter said Orchestra Geelong would perform alongside The Bay City Strings and “outstanding clarinettists Allister Cox and Janice Boyce”, with tickets available at the door and admission free for children.
