Police Otways chase nabs three wanted men

THREE wanted Geelong men have been arrested after a dramatic high-speed chase, and air and ground search in the Otways.

The men allegedly used a stolen Ford Territory to steal a box trailer containing motorbikes in Geelong, before heading to the region just after midnight Saturday.

Police observed the vehicle on Forrest Road and it failed to stop, which led to an off-road pursuit on four-wheel-drive tracks.

During the pursuit, the offenders kicked out the vehicle’s back windscreen, disconnected the trailer, and sped off, causing police to stop for safety reasons.

Lorne police Sergeant David Cooper said the offenders’ vehicle became stuck and they fled on foot. The dog squad and police airwing were then called in.

Using canine tracking and heat sensing, the men were found hiding in the bush.

“These offenders are prolific, high-volume crime offenders,” Sgt Cooper said:

“It’s been a really good catch by police, an excellent job by the Geelong and Surf Coast police members with assistance of the air wing and canine unit.”
