Board doomed
Barwon Water’s board faces the sack, Water Minister Lisa Neville warned this week.
The Bellarine MP foreshadowed a clean out of water boards around the state this year, despite the terms of four of the seven local board members expiring on 30 September 2017.

Drinks limit
A two-drink limit will come into force at Geelong Chamber of Commerce’s monthly After 5 networking events.
The chamber said the policy reflected its “duty of care” to members and would also help keep costs down for After 5 hosts.

Coles jobs
100 new jobs are up for grabs at a Torquay Coles supermarket opening in June.
Coles said applications were now open for a variety of positions ranging from check-out operators to delicatessen attendants and administration staff.

Circus ban
SURF Coast Shire will call on Municipal Association of Victoria’s state council to “strongly advocate” for a ban on circuses with caged wild animals.
This week’s call followed a Surf Coast Shire ban last year on the circuses using council-owned land.

Treatment funds
Two Geelong drug and alcohol treatment services have “funding certainty for another year”, Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson has announced.
She said the Salvation Army services would each receive $100,000 for programs helping women and children with alcohol and drug “issues”.

Scrubber risk
Alcoa’s for-sale Anglesea power station would have to spend $175 million to meet demands for installation of scrubbers, Surf Coast Shire’s council heard this week.
A report to council said closure of the coal-fired plant, which employs 80 staff, would be economically damaging to the shire.

That’s Kewell
Australian international soccer star Harry Kewell will conduct a “master class” at Corio’s Stead Park from 4pm to 7pm on Monday.
Organisers said registrations for children aged eight to 14 were available at harrykewellacademy.com.

Coffee feat
Belmont’s Michel’s Patisserie has won a fourth consecutive Coffee Shop of the Year title.
A Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Awards spokesperson said winning the four titles was “no mean feat in the competitive world of coffee”.
