MAKING an album is like giving birth to a baby, according to Amy Meredith drummer Kosta Theodosis.
Theodosis told the Independent that delivering Restless, the band’s latest album, was “a long time in the making”.
“We recorded it about a year ago and then it probably took the best part of six months to get it pressed and out,” he said.
“It was like creating a baby with five partners.
“It was a really huge relief when we finally got it out.”
Amy Meredith will play tracks off the album in Geelong next week.
Theodosis said Restless featured a “fairly diverse” mix of songs.
“From one of the first songs we wrote, Black Eyes, to latest track to hit the charts, Young At Heart, I think there’s a couple of raunchy, rock and slower songs.
“Getting this mix wasn’t real easy. You’d think having five guys in a room would produce some songs but when you do it, it doesn’t really work, you don’t get s—- done,” Theodosis laughed.
“Now Christian writes the lyrics, which is something he’s really passionate about, or we go on writing trips.”
The band is now heading into their 12th month of non-stop touring and Theodosis said being on the road wasn’t always all roses.
“I grew up with Joel, so I’ve known him for over 10 years and it’s the same with Christian,” he said.
“You do have five guys in a hotel room though, so there’s going to be a bit of conflict over stupid things like where the soap’s gone or who used my towel but I can’t complain – it keeps life exciting.
“We love being on the road. I like living out of a suitcase.”
The Amy Meredith tour takes in 18 dates across Australia on the back of chart success with smash hit single Lying.
Last month the album debuted on the ARIA charts at number eight after Lying smashed into the top ten on the ARIA singles chart.
“We’ve just finished touring with Grinspoon, which was unreal because we all used to listen to them as kids,” Theodosis said.
“All the shows were great shows, so we did make a few fans and people did go to see us but the real realisation now is while doing our first ever head-lining shows and people are coming to see just us.
“In Perth three of our four shows were sold out.”
